Balling on a Budget

Updated: Jul 30, 2019

You ever find yourself spending money on things you KNOW you have no business spending money on? Trying to find that perfect balance between living and just surviving? I've been there, we all have. Here three easy tips and tricks to get you started:

1. SAVE 5-10% of each check: (I know that it's easier said than done, but hear me out)

--It takes nothing to drop a small percentage of your check into a savings account, or a shoe box, or a piggy bank, however you save best. That most likely would've been money you spent on food, or going out, or other things you really don't need.

--This is something that can be done before or after paying your bills. Preferably before, but if your bills often take up your entire check, you may want to take care of your priorities first.

2. Buy bargain brands!:

--It's okay to be boujie on certain things. You like what you like at the end of the day, but don't be so quick to discard the value of a bargain brand. It's cheaper and often times more durable than actual name brand materials.

--For example: Clothes, shoes, and other materialistic things aside; bragain brand food items come in super clutch when grocery shopping. That's a bill that can easily be reduced, by changing the way you buy. Also, you don't necessarily need ALL name brand clothes and shoes. Consider looking at that clearance rack boo! You know how many compliments I get on things I make LOOK expensive. The only person/thing you should be trying to impress is your wallet because your pockets will take you farther than people's opinions of you ever could.

3. Stay yo ass home...simple:

--There is one simple question I ask myself before going out, and it often helps determine if I can

go out.

"Do you have enough money to cover yourself for an emergency?"

--I know it's random because who's thinking about emergencies before going out? You're either thinking about getting fucked up, or having a good time, or both. However, emergencies are never planned or expected. They come out of nowhere and that's all apart of Lesson #1: Stay Ready so You Don't Have to Get Ready. You never know what could happen. God forbid, your car gets towed, or you get stuck somewhere and need to call an out of the way Uber for $100 or more. If you don't have enough to cover YOUR ass just in case, then you may want to save your money and spend your night at home for free.
